Message from Admin Team
It has been an incredible privilege and joy to serve the wonderful NHE community. The relationships we have built with staff, students, and families in such a short time will always be cherished by us. As Mrs. Lyons takes on her new role as principal at Medina and Dr. Macias returns to the central office, we are confident in the leadership of Kris Hagan and Alison Hook at our school. We eagerly anticipate welcoming Principal Hagan and are thrilled that Alison Hook will continue as Assistant Principal next year.We want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your partnership and support in leading this remarkable community. We will miss you all dearly.

Tomorrow’s Assembly and Early Dismissal
Please don’t forget tomorrow is an early dismissal day. Also families are invited to join us in our last assembly of the school tomorrow June 18th at 8:15 a.m. We will start promptly at 8:15, and will be celebrating our school year together, saying goodbye and good luck to some staff, singing some school songs and promoting each grade level to the next. Families can help guide students as we take the last walk around school campus and create a tunnel for us to walk through.
Korean Bilingual Program
Last Friday at ESC, we had Korean Curriculum Day, where the preparation team worked on mapping the Korean Language Arts (KLA) Curriculum. In a typical KLA lesson, students will have time to practice their reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills in Korean, including learning the Korean alphabet, Hangul. The lessons will be filled with engaging and culturally meaningful activities. The Korean instruction block also includes SEL Second Step lessons, which are the same as those in other Kindergarten classes but are delivered entirely in Korean. Are you interested in learning about Korean culture and language during the summer break? Here are some useful links. Have a wonderuful summer!

Cultural Calendar
June 19 – Juneteenth
Juneteenth is a federal holiday in the United States signed into law by President Joe Biden in 2021. Officially known as Emancipation Day or Freedom Day, Juneteenth commemorates the announcement of the abolition of slavery in Texas on June 19, 1865, and the emancipation of enslaved people throughout the Confederate South. Two and half years after the Emancipation Proclamation, and two months after the end of the Civil War, Union troops arrived in Galveston to find that news of the proclamation had not yet reached Texas. The Juneteenth flag was created in 1997 by Ben Haith, the founder of the National Juneteenth Celebration Foundation.
June 28 – Pride Day
The Stonewall Riots, also called the Stonewall Uprising, began in the early hours of June 28, 1969, when New York City police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay club located in Greenwich Village in New York City. The raid sparked a riot among bar patrons and neighborhood residents as police roughly hauled employees and patrons out of the bar, leading to six days of protests and violent clashes. The Stonewall Riots served as a catalyst for the gay rights movement in the United States and around the world.
